Alcohol Rants I

This is one of the liquor which you can drink that makes you feel rich. :P

Here are a few tips to hold your liquor. Well, too much of it will still bring you down. Some of it, you guys might know.

1. Do not mix your booze. This is true esspecially with beer. Do not mix beer with the rest. Beer is gaseous and it brings the alchohol into your brain quicker.

2. Do not drink with a empty stomach. Oldest tip in the book. Food helps you to absorb alchohol. Empty stomach just makes it easier for the alchohol to go into your bloodstreams.

3. Light colored alchohol does not provide as much hangover as darker alchohol. Still experimenting.

4. Always mix alchohol with mixers. Do not be a hero to down it neat. Water is the best.

5. Always be the friend to the best drinker, so he won't toast you down.

6. Be the bartender, then you know how much to pour for youself.

7. Drinks lots of water in between drinks. it dilutes the alchohol.

8. Dance. you are there to party, not to be a alchoholic. Somehow, the alchohol effect will wear off. Don't worry if you can't dance well, no one cares.

9. Don't drink too fast. why ? alchohol is expensive, and you are not trying to commit suicide.

10. If you feel light headed, seriously stop drinking until you feel better. A wasted person is always an emabarassment.

11. Don't drink if you are tired or sad or depress. The other way , you can hold your liquor better when you are happy.

12.Cocktails. If you do not know what isit, don't drink too much of it. They may taste harmless, but there are potent. They are meant to be drink slowly.

Here's a 2 post from one of the blogs I read on how to care for your wasted buddies.

Rules

Rules

Here's a picture of Galileo facing trial for believing that the Sun is the center of the universe.

Just a random thought. Why people follow rules blindly ?

Ever wonder why isit you can only drink when you are 18 ?

or why you can get a driving license at 17 ?

or why drugs are banned but not ciggarettes ?

or why there is only legalised bookie ?

or Why no chewing gum ? oh...to keep the country clean !!! Why not ban ciggarettes ?

Arent laws or rules enact for the people's benefit?

and many more whys..not just country have rules, religious body, schools, family, games, corporate all have rules.

And always there are people breaking them. Well, rules are canonized into law to control people. More often than not, its usually to protect the people making them.

Essentially there are two major types of people in this world. People who follows the rules and people who make their own rules. This is the fundamental of civilazation. There is the governing body , the ruler and the commoners, the citizens. Earlier civilazations, rulers are people who have might, powerful, not necessary smart and the commoners are the weaker race. As we transcend into the 20th century, rulers are now multinational corporations. Look at this, they have foothold in every country. Their employees slave for them for a salary which rhymes with slavery. They sponsored political parties so they can win elections becoming the people who make laws.

Thats why no matter how harmful ciggarettes is, they are still here. They provide a economy.

I am not suggesting people to break rules but rather question and think why.

I prefer to believe that they are guidelines instead.

...

I guess I have been watching too much of House M.D.

The Economies of A Chinese Wedding (my humble views)

What happen when you decided to say I do as a Chinese in South East Asia ?

Mastercard should use this

1. Photo Shoot 5,000(est)
2. Wedding Gown 3,000(est)
3. Wedding Dinner 20,000(est)
4. Ang Pows 1000 (est)

Getting married to the love of your life, saying bye bye to bachelorhood...priceless.

(est) is because i haven't been through it yet. From what I heard, you usually have to eat economical rice for a few months after that.

Anyays, What happen during the last decade ? Weddings suddenly becoming an million dollar industry. Thanks to the Bachelorette, now its picking up in the US as well.

And wedding suppose to be a sacred ceremony between two people (male and female) that decided " ok people, we are off the singles market now, go find other people". There will be someone to ordain the event, and witnesses to make sure you don't back out in the later part of life ( there, I saw you get married, now don't you play play ).

Why can't it be a simple ceremony with friends and families..and then..off to the honeymoon.

Here is my conspiracy theory,in the mid 1987's , after asian economic crisis, people went bankrupt, out of job, spending less drives the chinese restaurant business , wedding parlors into despration.

So, one smarty chinese restaurant owner meet up with the wedding parlor owner for coffee and came up with a new idea. Why don't we have wedding packages ? We will psycho the girls, knowing each girl has a dream of a grand wedding. And then the girl will make their future loving spouse to pay for it. ITs perfect, win win situation. Hence today, all chinese restaurants have wedding package, all wedding boutiques (no more parlors..cheapskate name) have wedding package for all levels of income.

So, most chinese can't afford to lose face, will either keep up with the grandness or make it grandier.

I have heard people asking, "when you are getting married?". the person answer " I am saving up for it."

Now they even rope in the videographers and the flash programmers. Whats next ya?

I would have a circus act in mine. hahaha..

Coming in my next few posts...my humble views to the economies of

1. Having Children
2. Divorce

hookah...or Sheesha

Went to this Sheesha place with souplad after tired of waiting for Miss Hornist. ITs called Samar..

Very Turkish kind of Setting. I had Apple shisha while souplad have Vanilla shisha. Oh, you got to request for a new mouthpiece, or they will just give you a washed one..yuckksss.

Evidently, shisha is also known as Hookah. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hookah

its Sgd 12 for one shisha. Food wise is really authentic but not my taste.

Good place for chillin. However, we felt very windy in the stomach and proceed to go massage to release it.

blink!

Well, I am suppose to read this book. I am giving up..after thin slicing it. I find it boring,, no offense to people who like this book. So I am moving on to something more light and humorous, Comedy. I am always a fan of comedy. Singapore is so lack of stand ups, so I got to download them from the internet. A few of my favorites are Russel Peters,Seinfeld, Pablo Franceso, and many more.

I am reading ..

I find it a very good read. I must admit, i am reading it for the 2nd time. I shall quote some of his insights here in the future.

I am giving it 4.5/5.

Na Beh !!!

*Caution, this post is rated V (Vulgarities). This post is meant for educational purposes.

I always wonder what that means. I hear Mr Brown scold it so many times , so I google it and guess what I found

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=na+beh

na beh
Various contractions of "Ka Ni Na Bu Chao Chee Bye". The rudest phrase of all. Use only if you wish to be beaten up or want other people to think you were raised in a longkang. Literally: "Fuck your mother/Fuck your mother's smelly cunt." Usually used in Singapore.

Na beh, do you have a problem with me?

Interesting web site so i proceed with other vulgarities I have accumulated for the past 8 years. I only start spilling out vulgarities after the legal age of 18. Guess life begins to suck after that , ya.

tiu
Equivalent to 'fuck' in Cantonese when pronunced in high and abrupt tone.

Tiu nia seng!
(Cantonese: Fuck your mom!)

kan ni nia

fuck your mom.

u want me to pay for your dinner? KAN NI NIA!

cibai

Common in Malaysian/Singaporean Cantonese. Equivalent to English 'cunt' (vagina).
Chau Cibai - smelly vagina (also used as a derogatory to females)
Cibai Been - vagina/pussy face ! Hahahahaha

See also 'Hai' or 'Chauhai'/'Chowhai' ie 'smelly cunt'

Cibai this stupid keyboard!

puki
filipino term for vagina
hugasan mo ang puki mo!!! = wash your vagina!!

Malay term of a vagina too.
"Kepala puki mak kau" = "Your mothers pussy"

lan
a turkish expression used when calling for a friend or wanting to insult a stranger

Friend: 'Lan' lets go and watch Turkey win Greece in the soccer.

Stranger: Hey 'lan' if i see you near my sister again i will fucking rip off your nuts and stick em in your fathers ass

Pubjabi for a male dick.

Carmen Electra: Yo Jag you've got a big lan. Can i suck it?

Jag(Me): Of course, but don't make a mess.

short form Hokkien for a male dick too.

See Lan jiao

Lan Jiao
Lan Jiao n the external male organ of copulation, used to transfer semen to the female. In most mammals, it is also used to expel urine from the body.

You wanna suck my Lan Jiao?

So, for non-chinese sometimes you will meet with some local singaporeans or malaysians who may look at you in a unsatisfied look mumbling these phrases, you will know what they mean.

I also know some tamil version..maybe next time.

Boston Legal

Was watching Boston Legal late last night. Funny, sacarstic and intelligent. Overall its entertaining and it shows lawyers can talk the dead into living. Same fella who produce the popular Ally McBeal, Boston Public and etc.

I only managed to catch a few episodes , its humor with a twist. Here an excerpt from yesterday's episode where Schmidt argue that the Little Jimmies snack was causing Mr Mickel's diabetic condition. It happen when erractic partner Poole decides to sue someone and chose Lil Jimmies Snack for Mr Mickel's condition. Whats interesting is Schmidt has only one night to prepare for the opening trial.

Also, it reminds me of the conversation souplad and I had on we should put health warning labels on unhealthy food like they have on ciggarettes.

Enjoy ..

Vivian Marino: No doctor or medical professional has ever linked his diabetes to Lil’ Jimmies Snack Cakes.
And even if they could, so what? All the information Mr Mickel needed to make his informed dietary decision
was right there on the label. My God! When are people going to start taking responsibility? This man snorted
down three boxes a day, not to mention the soft drinks, the potato chips. The only exercise he got was
reaching for the cookie jar. And he wants to blame us? Then what? We outlaw desserts altogether. We
criminalize the cupcake because people cannot be expected to eat in moderation. It’s ridiculous. Mr Mickel
wants to be able to snack and sue. He wants to have his cake and eat it too, and enough is enough. That’s
one word this plaintiff can’t seem to appreciate. To Phil. Enough.
Shirley Schmidt: Reading off the label of a Lil’ Jimmies box. Yellow dye tartrazine, which is a coal tar
derivative. Blue dye triphenylmethane, which is a petroleum-based product. Red dye carminic acid, which is
derived from the carcasses of the cochineal beetle.
Judge Katherine Taylor: I’m sorry. Did you say the cochineal beetle?
Shirley Schmidt: Carcasses. That’s right. Partially hydrogenated vegetable or animal shortening. Which is beef
fat, pork gelatin. Which is made from boiled bones, tendons, and skin of pigs. Ugh. So far, we’re up to motor
oil, bugs, road tar, and pig bones.
Vivian Marino: So far, she hasn’t named a thing that isn’t in the majority of cookies and snack cakes.
Shirley Schmidt: Ha. And isn’t that scary?
Vivian Marino: No, what’s scary is that we’re being singled out.
Shirley Schmidt: Yes, it has us all terrified. May I continue? The Judge nods. Bleached white flour. The
common ingredient used to bleach flour is chloride oxide, the use of which has been linked to the destruction
of the pancreas and a form of type II diabetes. And finally the biggie, high fructose corn syrup. This product
does not metabolize as a normal sugar in the body and it prevents a certain hormone, leptin, from reaching
the brain. This hormone normally sends a signal to the brain that your stomach is full and tells you to stop
eating but, whenever you eat anything with high fructose corn syrup, your brain thinks it’s not full, and so you
keep eating and eating and eating. This product, like many dessert cakes, is addictive and causes diabetes,
and that is what this lawsuit will show. As for defense counsel’s remark that the whole thing is ridiculous… To
Vivian. …is it? The rate of diabetes has increased 80% in the last decade. Nearly 21 million Americans have
diabetes. One in three children will get it in their lifetime. I just want to say that again, one in three children.
These companies are corporate drug dealers. Their products are killing our children.
Vivian Marino: Objection. This is beyond inflammatory.
Shirley Schmidt: Is it? One in three children? You market to children. At least tobacco companies say on the
packages that cigarettes can kill you. Ha. And you have the temerity to accuse my client of not taking
responsibility?

Boston Legal : either on TV, pirated DVD or Originals, reccomended.

Friday part 2

After work, I met up with lian for dinner, then after that we head on to this microbrewery and met up with souplad.

Archipelago microbrewery is one of its kind. My 2nd time actually. First time, the place was empty on a Saturday night. But friday is packed with people, from work, some farangs, and not to mention cute singapore girls.

They are popular for their handcraft beer, Traveller's Wheat, Trader's Ale and Straits Pale. Traders Ale i think its the more popular one. Lian likes it, I likes it , and Souplad likes it. Traders Ale have gula melaka you know. However, I prefer Straits Pale amongst the three because of it being more hoppy. Anyways, check out the website http://www.archipelagobrewery.com/ .
A good place to chill out especially when you get tired of those bottled beers. A place to round up a party of 3 -4 , more than that would be slight uncomfortable. Those beers are 10+ each.
Yes, it allows smoking, no 10% rule here yet.

my other favorite brewery would be Brewerkz which is famous for its IPA ( my fav).

After Archipelago, we adjourned to Rav with BeerBrat and an old friend who just got back from Japan. The website , http://www.rav.com.sg/ . Dead place. I was here 2 weeks ago with souplad and we can't get in cos its too pack but now its swatting fly ( ta wu ying). Talk about ups and downs of the entertainment industry. Anyways settle down here because of the promo (gimmick), buy one and get the next one for 10 cents, go figure.

Fun started when we played Liars Dice ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liar ) . Loser drinks. After that, we played a slightly different version of the game. Instead of dices, we uses toothpicks. Ya, liar toothpicks. Had Hard time to figure out the game ( booze effect ) but eventually we did. Each player has 5 pieces of toothpicks. Each player will then choose the numbers of toothpick they wish to play. If you choose 2, take 2 toothpicks and clasped them in your fist. After all player put forward the fist with the toothpicks in it, 1st player start by guessing the minimum number of toothpicks he thinks is in this round. IT goes clockwise to the next player who has two choices now. Either he call it a bluff ( he thinks there are less toothpicks than the number he called) or he has to call out a new minimum which is higher than the previous one. The game continue until someone calls bluff, and then all fist open to reveal the total of the toothpicks there. IF the total toothpicks if more than the minimum called, the person who calls bluff, drinks. And if the total toothpicks is less than the minimum, the person who calls the minimum , drinks.

I think we shall call this Liar's toothpicks. ( Nga chim em kong dai wah).

We played untill wee hours in the morning and the last one in Rav.

This proceed on with supper and then home sweet home. Not bad for a friday night out.

Post Independance, Merdeka so what

Post-Merdeka...recalling our history as we Malaysians in school have read in our history textbooks, here's a bried crash course. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hari_Merdeka

I am working today because Singapore isn't celebrating this day. They celebrated theirs, 22 days ago. I think they should celebrate because its also the day this little island got liberated from the colonials. Then I can have two holidays ma....

Kenny Sia blogs about how un-malaysian we can get, makes me wonder, maybe colonialisation happens in a different way today. Looks at how BIG MNCs flourishing in our country, how MTV invade our lives, every corner we have McDonalds, KFC and my favorite Starbucks. McD is like a family restaurant here when in US, its somewhere similar to our roti prata shop. I have friends who wanna be black, some who wanna be white, and some just wannabees. Don't get me wrong that I am against western culture and i am not a fundamentalist. I just envy the japanese and koreans because of the fact they can asimilate their culture and the western culture making them unique and strong.

So, creating our own unique identity and culture , will be day we merdeka.

A hot fact I got to know from a friend ,

si ngapura
Malaya ---> Malay a ---> Malaysia. 1963 thats when we got our name. This fact somehow got truncated out from our textbooks. Machiavellians !!!

Anyways, i find that malaysians are pretty united overseas, but squabbles back home. Hence the saying , never wash dirty laundry outside ma...:)

Bringing Down the IRs ?

Book Reviews ... I am poor at them. Never did a good job in school.

Anyways...told myself this year, I am going to read more.

I was at Borders and miss JB die Hard have some printed coupons for 20% discount. I didn't any titles in mind at that moment. Can't resist the temptation of such good discount, I scrounged around. I came across this book " Bringing down the House" at the gambling section.

I heard about this book before some time ago. So I bought it. Its about how a group of MIT students reveal how they manage to win millions from a few large casinos in Las Vegas and some other places legally. They played blackjack, which through the words of Kevin Lewis " BlackJack is the only game in the casino that is beatable over an extended period of time because blackjack is subject to continous probability.

To put it simply. Once an Ace is out, the chances of getting another ace in the deck reduces. Before I start reading the book, I thought these people have great memory skills, to be able to count the cards literally i.e. 3 ACE, 2 Kings...4 Queens...In fact , they have a system. ( see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Card_counting ) . Too bad , I can't use this techniques during Chinese New Year to win money. Sigh !!!

The book is more about how they work as a team and trust each other as a team.

A intriguing and good read for engineers(myself) or mathematicians. With the Singapore IR coming up, we can start practicing now because its perfecting legal. However, a casino can always refuse you.

A better review see , http://www.techsoc.com/bringing.htm

As for my reading, I am still stuck with Freakanomics, going to start Blink ( recomended by SoupLad ), and going to get Good Omen (recomended by VirginPornstar )

Happy Reading !!!

Ghost Game

Souplad, BeerBrat, a few others and I went to watch "Ghost Game", a thai made horror flick. Not a bad show. I googled it and it seems its a very controversial movie that sparks tension between Cambodia and Thailand. It seems that this movie is modelled after the Khmer Rouge torture. Go figure ... http://www.tharum.info/2006/05/10/ghost-game-film-made-in-thailand/ . Such cruelty existed in the past, and its over. Just be glad it ain't happening right now.

My review. Not very scary. Partly due to the fact I am not a fan of horror movies. It has an unexpected ending though.

Rating : 3/5 stars

Back to blogging...yes, I have been lazy.

a little intro.

I am a Malaysian. ( some ignorant ang-mor thinks I am Malay !!!)

Born, bred in a small town.

I speak Malay, English, hokkien, Cantonese and Mandarin(Malaysian style).

Glad my childhood is in the era with no Xbox, no extra tuition, no stress exams and seems my hometown is much of the world I know.

Went to a National School. Only bad thing is I didn't learn mandarin.

CLick ... fast forward ....

finished Local university ( trust me, getting in is like winning the lottery) , and now contributing to Singapore economy. Irony ain't it.

This will be the place where I rant all my life in Singapore. Here for 5 years already and I still say "bu de kong", " chi mei yi sia" .

Stay tuned.

Malaysians and Singaporeans differ in a way despite the proximity we shared. I have the best of both worlds. :P
