Brain Drain

Brain Drain is the talk of the town again.

I remembered I wrote about it 3 years ago, Click Here.

Interestingly, over the recent years, I've seen more Malaysians coming over the causeway to work. Maybe it's just so coincidentally that friends or friends of my friends are coming over there to work, in various industry in fact.

Today, I came across a article in Business times that talks about this indirectly. So the author decides to pull in some numbers.

140,000 malaysians left the country to work in 2007.
300,000 malaysians left from Mar 2008 to Sept 2009. Wow, a whopping almost 100% jump.
200,000 malaysians left from Jan 2009 to August 2009.

Is Malaysia really that bad until folks have to leave their family behind to seek greener pastures.

The writer that pull in economic data, GDP to be precise. To put it simply, Malaysia start off good at the starting line, promising with good potential of being one of the emerging countries. However, today with the pace that it is growing, it is losing steam.

Today, its growth rate at 5.8% is falling short of HK, Singapore, South Korea, China, Indonesia, India and even Vietnam.

Clearly, the brain drain has taken a toll on the country.
